Born in Rennes, on the Atlantic coastal arc,
Théo will quickly hook several strings to his.
After studying in his native Brittany, he sets his sights on
a BTS [Superior Technical Degree] in IT services for
organizations. His mother, a teacher, tells him about an
article about launching a whole new kind of school: l’Ecole
42. Xavier Niel, its founder, explains there his vision.
It resonates with Theo's sensitive chord: coding.
"Sorry, I have swimming!"
Enthusiastic, he drops the BTS and passes a series of online tests. He is admitted to
the first class of School 42. "Even though the program, method and course content
spoke to me, the school had just opened. It was still a risky bet", he admits. Macs
everywhere on three floors, giant open space areas, living rooms, open 24/7,
"It made you want to go to work," enthuses Theo. New school but also new
principle. The only prerequisites for students: motivation, digital in the blood and
a bulletproof endurance. A military atmosphere awaits Theo: "I first got acquainted
with the Pool."
The education system is modeled on that of video games. Students start at the level
zero with first projects that they must unlock to go to the next level, with
ever more complex projects up to the twenty-first level. In the seventh, Théo opens
the door to internships. Sometime later, he will take part in the opening of Station F
[the world’s largest start-up incubator in SEast Paris] with his ‘42’ friends. Théo
reached level 7. Before his internship, he met in Paris an American friend. He plans
to join her and wishes to
From Berkeley to Manchester
Arrived in California, he enrolls at the Berkeley City College and follows a more
general coursework. He perfects his English and takes some courses in the lecture
halls of UC Berkeley. Back in Paris, he then starts an internship in Manchester.
The company where he works finds loans to people wishing to benefit from plastic
surgery and ensures the successful contact with surgeons. When Theo returns from
England, is it perhaps due to the climate, his motivation is a little seized up. Théo
wants to get on with his professional life. To get there faster, he chooses to be a
freelancer. "Again, it was not a cushy solution, but the action appealed to me and
my acquired IT knowledge reassured me", considers Théo in hindsight.
He starts in the design of websites. The Grand Rex [Paris movie theater, concert and
show venue] trusts him. But the need for stability is emerging. At a party, he bumps
into a friend of a friend, Alexandre, who talks about his projects. Time passes and
Alexandre calls him back and offers him an interview with Jérôme from FiveForty°.
"I come out of the interview with a strange feeling. Jérôme, the development
reference, asked me a thousand questions about my knowledge of such and such
technology. I hardly knew any of them...", confides Theo.
Sharing of expertise
Still, Alexander advises him not to worry. Three months later, the latter asks him if he
wants to start the following week. Upon arrival at FiveForty°, on the Lagardère
project Jérôme trains Théo on the Tyndareus application he had developed for
Relay. Today, at FiveForty°, he appreciates the atmosphere of advanced
technologies and the sharing of expertise. He also trains in Power BI and takes care
of the development of the site and the SEOs. "The afterwork get-togethers are also
very nice. Debrief the working day all together, in buddy mode, is cool too", Théo
points out. On the lighter side, Théo also talks about beach volleyball, which he
practices in a club. He has resumed the piano lessons which he took as a child.
He has made a new friend there. A true prodigy: "at fifteen, he is just amazing and
teaches me a lot of things." What if he hadn't worked in IT?: "I would have well
imagined myself practicing a job somewhere by the ocean", considers Théo, all
covered in his Brittany sea spray where he is currently working remotely.°
